Back in 2006 I started a remodeling company called SLS Construction. In 2008 I started a blog focused on homeowner education (HRC) which was located on the SLS Construction site. This quickly evolved into helping those in trades with the advent of the RRP, changing energy codes, and other ever-changing regulations so I rebranded it as The HTRC and eventually moved it to its own site (where you are now). As I became more focused on education, training, and doing code & above code program testing the name changed to SLS Construction & Building Solutions (SLSCBS). The last 19 years have been quite a run, but it is time for one more change and evolution.
The change comes about as I have accepted a position as Chief Building Official for a municipality and will be shuttering SLSCBS. In case you have come here looking for a Blower Door Test, a HERS rating, or similar let me leave you a pointer to some companies & individuals I have known for over 10+ years now and can help you out. Please note you are responsible for doing your own due diligence, but in 10+ years I have never heard of an issue with any of them. FYI many offer other services but this is what I know them for.

How about this site – The HTRC?
I know it has been very sporadic lately, but hopefully that will be changing as my hours should actually decrease from current levels. So fingers crossed and no worries, as long as I feel like I am helping people out and can swing it, the site will remain live. Since day one we haven’t taken money, done any paid sponsorships, etc… and that will not change. The one item that will change though is the site will no longer be sponsored by “SLSCBS” and it becomes a “personal” blog site. Please note the word personal – there are numerous pieces on codes that have stood the test of time based on when they were written – they do not reflect my new position or the municipality I represent.
