Abrasion Resistance

Abrasion resistance can either be classified as an object being able to resist wear & tear caused by friction or as a rating. For example ceramic tiles may fall under 1 one of 6 classes;

  • 0 = just looking at it can cause issues / best used on walls
  • 1 = also best used on walls though it can withstand very light traffic (sole soled shoes / no dirt)
  • 2 = a little more forgiving of dirt with light traffic / lowest class you want for residential
  • 3 = generally used in light commercial & residential areas without a lot of foot traffic
  • 4 = commonly used in commercial kitchens
  • 5 = tile meant for malls, airports, and other areas with a lot of foot-traffic
