Petrichor

Put simply, it is the unique smell that occurs when rain starts falling on dry ground / rocks. This smell is caused by the rain dislodging / releasing organic compounds & oils located on the surfaces.

This is generally noticed more in drier arid climates. The smell can also be unique to each person – for example to me it smells like fresh baked bread, others say fresh mowed grass, old books, while you may notice…
