Ramp-A-Thon 2009 Press Release

Official Press Release:

Ramp-A-Thon Project Built for Local Quadriplegic by SLS Construction

David Gentry of Vinemont was the recipient of a free ramp courtesy of SLS Construction who is part of the national Ramp-A-Thon project.

Vinemont, AL – December 3rd, 2009 – David Gentry of Vinemont was the recipient of a free ramp courtesy of SLS Construction who is part of the national Ramp-A-Thon project. The original Rampathon project was conceived to provide ramps for low-income disabled individuals by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties in Washington (MBA) back in 1993 and is continuing strong. Earlier this year, Mac MacDonald of Built by Mac located in Eugene, Oregon introduced the Ramp-A-Thon challenge to a group of professional deck and building contractors located nationwide. Mr. Lintow of SLS Construction was one of the first professional deck builders to accept the challenge. “I loved the idea back then, and contacted the United Way with the information on the program, asking them to forward any matching requests to me. We finally got a request from the Alabama Head Injury Foundation back on November 11th and it was great to be able to help David out.”

The old ramp: was severely deteriorated due to a major ponding issue, and was pitched to steeply (1:6 1” drop for every 6” of run).

The New Ramp: Utilizing mostly left over materials from previous projects it was extended out over a foot decreasing the slope & eliminating the ponding issue. “While we prefer a 1:12 to a 1:20 slope, in this case we were only able to get it to a 1:10 slope without interfering with the Handicapped Van’s access.”
