What to do about damage to your house during a storm

While listening to the rain you happen to look outside and notice the shingles are flying off your roof, or you walk into a room and notice water dripping down, or worse case a tree falls on your house – what should you do?

During the middle of storm you should not go outside to inspect or try to rectify an issue. It is dangerous and you could easily turn one issue into two or more issues with you heading to the Emergency Room or causing more damage. If water is leaking into a room, try to contain it in buckets and empty them out as required. If there are any belongings that may get ruined, they should be removed from the area. If a tree has fallen on the roof, you should stay out of the room until you are sure it is safe to enter it after the storm has passed.
