Why you might want to consider an Artificial Lawn

Artificial grass… ooh that can conjure up some pretty strong thoughts and opinions from many that have seen or even used those products in the past. Ahh but the winds of change are blowing and so have the products. This week we have Millie Rainer who offers up her thoughts on “Why It Is Time for You to Install an Artificial Lawn.” Millie has worked as a content strategist in industries as diverse as hospitality, fashion, and tech (currently she is working with Forestgrass.com.) She never skips a chance to share her thoughts on these, and you can find her on Google+ if you’d like to say “Hi.” So with no further ado…

We are all fans of nature here. We love the bright green of new grass, the smell of freshly mowed grass, and the softness of the blades under our feet on a breezy evening in the spring.

But beautiful though it is, nature also has its own (and a rather strong) mind. It also has a thing for the wild, which doesn’t quite fit into our scheme of things that requires our lawns to look more manicured than messy, and more green than brown. And we can’t stand weeds and rodents either, all a part of nature.

If you have been struggling with keeping your lawn looking spick and span, you might want to consider an artificial fix. Sorry if I did not make that sound very subtle. The idea of sacrificing natural grass for synthetic blades doesn’t go down well with quite a few people I know. So I wouldn’t want to beat around the bush here. I’ll straight up give you a few reasons why a synthetic lawn is a great-looking and hassle-free solution for those who like their lawns looking pretty all year round.

Minimal Upkeep

One doesn’t have to be lazy in order to be enamored by the thought of having a beautiful lawn brought about by no effort on our part.

One could be busy, tied up, elderly, with compromised mobility or simply unable to devote the kind of time required to keep a natural lawn looking stunning all the time.

An artificial lawn does involve some effort on your part to install and upfront it may not even sound cheap. But one needs to think long-term to truly appreciate the beauty of it.

Once you have installed your synthetic lawn, you won’t have to think twice about it.

It’s a bit like getting a great haircut and never having to worry about even so much as tweaking it. Ever!

From going to eternally fussing over your lawn to not having to think about it at all will be very liberating, at least in the beginning. After a while you will just get used to it. But you will always appreciate that:

  • You don’t have to mow your lawn.
  • You don’t have to spend on landscaping your front yard.
  • You don’t have to contend with weeds.
  • You don’t have to sprinkle pesticides to keep pests and rodents at bay.
  • You just don’t have to think about your lawn anymore!

No Watering Required

Imagine the amount of water you will save over time if you chose synthetic grass over natural grass. This could make a considerable difference to those who live in regions that don’t receive a lot of rain, or are suffering from water scarcity.

Apart from being a massive eco-friendly benefit, this also leads to a lot of saved time in terms of looking after your lawn.

All-Season Looks

Artificial lawns have come a long way over the past few decades. They look increasingly like natural grass now. They even mimic the browning of the natural grass in places, and come in a variety of heights. They feel very soft to touch, and some of them don’t even emit the plasticky smell (caused by the emission of VOCs) if were you to roll around on them.

This, along with the low maintenance involved, has been the main reason behind the surge in the popularity of artificial grass.

Doesn’t matter the season or the weather, an artificial lawn continues to shine green and look lively. Purely in terms of aesthetics, this is a great bonus.

Pet –Resistant

So Fido loves to dig up corners in your front yard, which totally ruins the garden and spoils the façade of your house. He also loves chasing rodents, no matter where it leads him or how muddied he becomes in the process.

Well, dogs are dogs, and a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do.

Rather than hoping Fido outgrows his penchant for digging, how about leaving him one corner area, and fill the rest of the space with a synthetic lawn? He won’t be able to dig up an artificial turf, which will leave your front outdoor space looking immaculate day after day.

Furthermore, artificial grass does not end up developing spots or patches due to pet waste. Cleaning up after your pet is also easier on a synthetic lawn as it is easily washable.

Versatile in Its Uses

There is a lot you can do with an artificial turf. On top of all the benefits listed so far, it’s ideal for areas that receive a lot of traffic. The blades of artificial grass don’t bend or are easily trampled on, so you can have a spot of eternal green in your front yard season after season, and continue to entertain guests in the outdoor space without having to worry about the grass getting flattened and ruining the overall look.

You can also create a play area for your children in your garden made of artificial grass. The kids won’t be bitten by insects or rodents, nor would they be able to uproot the grass and in general leave a mess. Artificial grass is kid-friendly and you don’t have to worry about kids being able to harm it either!

Furthermore, you can carve out interesting patterns and designs out of synthetic grass and create grassy but synthetic carpets out of them to lend a touch of green to places other than lawns and yards.

Here’s a good collection of ideas of what can be done with fake grass.

Conclusion

The quality of artificial grass differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Not all of it will be top-notch; however, the thing to bear in mind is that the technology itself has evolved to a degree where fake lawns look as impressive as real ones in their best shape (and without any of the upkeep effort). There is a reason they have grown in popularity so. So do your research and find the best-quality artificial grass for your lawn. You will save yourself a lot of work and heartache over the years.
