Wacky Weds: Worst Flashing Idea Ever?

One of the biggest tenants of building but especially roofing is getting the water away from the structure as soon as possible. So I have to wonder what this person was thinking…

An adjuster showed me this flashing detail for a chimney… Not sure why the roofer didn’t install a cricket to shed water away from the chimney in the first place, but lets keep it there by creating a dam and lets also divert what was running past into the area. Oops

Curious how much? For 1″ of rain with a 20′ run at 2′ wide that area would normally see almost 25 gallons worth of water looking for a way down. Add that nice little 6″ diverter you are now at 31 gallons with most of it being trapped… Hmm, wonder why the adjuster was out there?
