Wacky Weds: Selective Termites?

This is enough to cause major anxiety in someone opening up a wall in a remodel, but seeing this in a new house… No this wasn’t caused by selective termites, it just arrived from the lumber yard like this. Now as for who thought this would still be something worth using…

Wacky Weds: At a loss…

I got to admit, this one threw me for a loop… It’s in a basement right off the stairs in the main walkway Shoot anyone have any ideas? The sump pump is 8′ away right next to the wall, this is 6′ from the wall, not near anything requiring load bearing footings…

Wacky Weds: Tyvek Installer Fail

I couldn’t believe it when I saw this… A closer look? So unless they were listening to dancing on the ceiling, they actually stood the wall up after the workers stepped all over it with mud & who knows what else on their boots. So when the WRB fails, don’t blame the product in this […]

Wacky Weds: Why prime the walls?

For the cost of this paint, maybe I can save a few bucks by not priming… Sweet this product is a paint & primer in one… In some cases the above will work just fine, but that is for walls that have already been painted before. Now as for new walls or walls patched with […]

Wow Wednesday: Watkins Park, Michigan

Wednesday’s are generally reserved for a real wacky photo of something we spot in the field, but this last weekend we happened to be on vacation & ran into something really cool. The place is called Watkin’s Memorial Park in Three Oaks, Michigan. While it is slightly off the beaten path & easy to miss it […]

Wacky Weds: Drywall screws for sheathing?

Do I really have to say this – but drywall screws are only meant for hanging drywall, not … Oh yeah & staples aren’t meant for tar paper or Tyvek either aka …

Wacky Weds: Who needs flashing?

Hey it’s a bay window way up on the second floor with a 2′ overhang above it, why install flashing??? Heh lets just install shingles on it. Funny thing, the only trade in this state that requires licensing & testing is roofers… Want to do it right, know how it should be? Getting the details […]
