Tuesday Tip: Fixing a common closet light chain issue

Unless you have a walk in closet or one with a light switch, one big issue is just where is the cord to turn on the light? Sure you could turn on the bedroom light, but waking up your spouse or sleeping kids… yeah not a good idea. Adding in a light switch? Yeah that equals a big mess &/or cost. Motion sensing – doesn’t work so hot in a shallow and packed closet… Pressure switch on the jamb – that only works on regular doors and as above it can be a big mess or cost i.e. best to do when installing the doors. How about a 25¢ fix and 2 minutes of your time?

Yep a simple eyelet hook screwed into the trim, now just slide the chain through and voilà….

The chain is now in front of the clothes where it is easy to not only see but grab. One caveat – for those with sliding / bypass doors, the chain will be hidden behind the doors. You can slide it to one side or the other (but which door) or just remember you need to reach behind the door by about 3″.
