Tuesday Tip – 2 for Exterior Painting

Ahh summertime – time to knock out those pesky exterior painting projects. In my case, I have three & the trim around the garage door is first on my list. Yep I started scraping & then decided, just to be safe… Yep if’s it’s red it’s lead – drats. Granted it was built a few years before 78 & it looked so new… Unfortunately, you can see the first coat of paint had lead which was absorbed into the wood. FYI & along those lines I have seen lead paint on some houses built in the early 80’s, so just remember to give it a quick test.

Granted I got a HEPA vac & could sand it but I opted to simply replace which brings us to our second tip – back prime all siding & trim you are going to put up. Sure this is cedar & naturally resistant to weather but priming not only helps protect it & makes it last longer but it also protects your WRB Water Resistant Barrier. Enjoy your summer
